The school

Wolverhampton Girls' High School is on Tettenhall Road, Wolverhampton WV6 0BY. Its admission policy describes it as a selective grammar school for girls aged 11 to 18 with academy status. The governing body sets its admissions. The number of Year 7 places for September 2027 is 180.

It is one of five schools in the Shropshire, Wolverhampton and Walsall group of the West Midlands Grammar Schools partnership, which shares one entrance test with the Birmingham and Warwickshire grammar schools. It is a different school from Wolverhampton Grammar School, which is independent and runs its own admissions.

How admission works

The school hasn't yet published its policy for September 2028 entry, so this summary uses its September 2027 policy. Policies can change each year, so check the current one before you name the school as a preference.

Your child sits the West Midlands 11+ test. The school sets its qualifying score in October, after the results, and tells families in the results letter. Its policy explains who meets the 'required standard', including a rule for Pupil Premium girls. Read the policy for the exact wording.

The 2027 policy offers places in two stages:

  1. First: looked after and previously looked after children who reach the qualifying score, then the first 25 girls eligible for the Pupil Premium who reach it, by test score. Other Pupil Premium girls join the main order.
  2. Then: all remaining places in order of test score.

There is no catchment area. The policy says families living both inside and outside the City of Wolverhampton may apply. Ties are settled by the rules in the policy, including distance from home to school.

Lowest score offered a place (all 180 places)208

The school says that for September 2026 entry its places were offered to girls scoring 208 or above. That was the lowest score offered that year, not a qualifying score, and it will be different in future years.

Past scores don't tell you what will be needed in a future year. Each year's figures depend on how many children apply, how they score and where they live. They show what happened for September 2026 entry, not your child's chances.

These scores are on the test's own scale. NextJen's mock exam scores are our own estimate on a different scale, so they can't be compared with these figures and don't predict a result.

The lowest score offered is not a pass mark. Reaching the qualifying score means a child can be considered; places are then given in the order each school's admission policy sets out.

Registering for the test

For September 2027 entry, the school's timeline says registration opened on 5 May 2026 and closed at 4pm on 26 June 2026, with requests for special arrangements by 4pm on 12 June 2026. Registration is through the West Midlands Grammar Schools registration form, which the school links from its website.

If your child is eligible for the Pupil Premium, the school needs proof before she sits the test.

Results are shared across the Shropshire, Wolverhampton and Walsall schools. If you might also apply to Birmingham or Warwickshire schools, choose to share the result with them when you register.

Test day and results

The school says: "We always test on a Monday". For September 2027 entry, its test was on Monday 14 September 2026 at the school. It also says other test centres may run the test on the Saturday before. Results were due by email in mid-October 2026. You then apply for a school place to your home council by 31 October.

Open events

The school has an open morning on Monday 19 October 2026 (10.45am to 12 noon) and an open afternoon on Tuesday 20 October 2026 (2.15pm to 3.30pm), for Year 5 and Year 6 families. Check its open events page for details and booking, and for later dates once these have passed.
