The school
Newport Girls' High School is on Wellington Road, Newport, Shropshire TF10 7HL, in the Telford and Wrekin Council area. Its admission policy describes it as a non fee-paying 11 to 18 grammar school that admits only girls, run by an academy trust whose trustees set its admissions. There are 120 places in Year 7.
It is one of five schools in the Shropshire, Wolverhampton and Walsall group of the West Midlands Grammar Schools partnership, which shares one entrance test with the Birmingham and Warwickshire grammar schools.
How admission works
The school hasn't yet published its policy for September 2028 entry, so this summary uses its September 2027 policy. Policies can change each year, so check the current one before you name the school as a preference.
Your child sits the West Midlands 11+ test. After the results, a selection panel sets the school's qualifying score. Looked after children and girls eligible for the Pupil Premium need a score of no less than 95% of the qualifying score. The school publishes past qualifying scores on its Year 7 admissions page: for September 2026 entry, it was 192. Past scores don't tell you what will be needed in a future year.
If more girls qualify than there are places, the 2027 policy offers places in this order:
- Looked after and previously looked after children.
- Up to 15 girls eligible for the Pupil Premium who attend one of the Telford and Wrekin primary schools listed in the policy.
- Girls living inside the Newport boundary area, by test score.
- All other girls, by test score.
The boundary area is shown on a map on the school's website. There is no priority for siblings. If two girls tie for the last place, the one who lives nearer gets it.
These scores are on the test's own scale. NextJen's mock exam scores are our own estimate on a different scale, so they can't be compared with these figures and don't predict a result.

|---|---|

Past scores don't tell you what will be needed in a future year. Each year's figures depend on how many children apply, how they score and where they live. They show what happened for September 2026 entry, not your child's chances.
These scores are on the test's own scale. NextJen's mock exam scores are our own estimate on a different scale, so they can't be compared with these figures and don't predict a result.
The lowest score offered is not a pass mark. Reaching the qualifying score means a child can be considered; places are then given in the order each school's admission policy sets out.
Registering for the test
For September 2027 entry, families registered through the West Midlands Grammar Schools online form, linked from the school's website, between Tuesday 5 May 2026 and 4pm on Friday 26 June 2026. Requests for reasonable adjustments closed at 4pm on 12 June 2026. Late registrations are accepted only in exceptional circumstances, with evidence.
If you're applying under the Pupil Premium priority, the policy asks for evidence no later than five working days before the test.
Test day and results
For September 2027 entry, the school's entrance test page gave the test date as Monday 14 September 2026, at the school. Results were due by Friday 16 October 2026. You then apply for a school place to your home council by 31 October.
