The school
Haberdashers' Adams is on High Street, Newport, Shropshire TF10 7BD, in the Telford and Wrekin Council area. Its admission policy describes it as a selective school with a sixth form, for boys and girls aged 11 to 18, with boarding for boys. It became an academy in 2011. For September 2027 entry it admits 135 day pupils (boys and girls) and up to 15 boy boarders into Year 7.
It is one of five schools in the Shropshire, Wolverhampton and Walsall group of the West Midlands Grammar Schools partnership, which shares one entrance test with the Birmingham and Warwickshire grammar schools.
How admission works
The school hasn't yet published its policy for September 2028 entry, so this summary uses its September 2027 policy. Policies can change each year, so check the current one before you name the school as a preference.
Your child sits the West Midlands 11+ test and must reach "the required academic standard". The school doesn't publish a qualifying score. Its policy says children eligible for the Pupil Premium need a score no lower than 5% below the general qualifying score.
If more children reach the standard than there are day places, the 2027 policy offers places in this order:
- Looked after and previously looked after children.
- Children eligible for the Pupil Premium or Service Premium.
- Children on roll at one of the Telford and Wrekin primary schools named in the policy, by the registration deadline. The school says the list includes every primary school in the TF10 postcode area.
- All other children, by test score.
Where scores are equal, the child who lives nearer gets the place. Boarding places follow a separate order, and boarding applicants are interviewed. There is no priority for siblings.
