The school
Alcester Grammar School is on Birmingham Road, Alcester B49 5ED. Its admission policy describes it as a co-educational 11 to 18 selective academy. For September 2027 entry, the published admission number for Year 7 is 150.
It is one of six schools in the Warwickshire group of the West Midlands Grammar Schools partnership, which shares one entrance test with the Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Shropshire grammar schools.
How admission works
The school hasn't yet published its policy for September 2028 entry, so this summary uses its September 2027 policy. Policies can change each year, so check the current one before you name the school as a preference.
Your child sits the West Midlands 11+ test. After the results, a committee sets the school's "automatic qualifying score" and a lower score for the waiting list. No score is published in advance.
The priority area is a circle of 16.936 miles from the Fountain in Rother Street, Stratford-upon-Avon. If more children apply than there are places, the 2027 policy offers places in this order:
- Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan naming the school.
- Looked after and previously looked after children who reach the qualifying score or come within 20 marks of it.
- Children eligible for free school meals living inside the priority area who reach the qualifying score or come within 20 marks of it.
- Children living inside the priority area who reach the qualifying score.
- Children living outside the priority area who reach the qualifying score.
- Children below the qualifying score but at or above the waiting-list score.
The policy limits how many places can go to children below the qualifying score; see the policy for the exact rule. Ties are settled by distance, then by random draw. There is no priority for siblings.
Past scores
Past scores, September 2026 entry. Figures checked against the source on 4 October 2026.
| What it shows | Score for September 2026 entry |
|---|---|
| Automatic qualifying score | 225 |
| Minimum score for waiting list | 220 |
Past scores don't tell you what will be needed in a future year. Each year's figures depend on how many children apply, how they score and where they live. They show what happened for September 2026 entry, not your child's chances.
These scores are on the test's own scale. NextJen's mock exam scores are our own estimate on a different scale, so they can't be compared with these figures and don't predict a result.
Registering for the test
The Warwickshire schools' 2027 admission policies say the way you register depends on where you live, not on which schools you want. If you're unsure, check with the school you'd most like your child to attend before the registration deadline.
The policies say:
- If you live in Warwickshire, register with Warwickshire County Council through its Parent Portal.
- If you live in Birmingham, register with the Birmingham grammar schools on the West Midlands Grammar Schools website, and choose to share the result with Warwickshire.
- If you live somewhere else, register in the area where you would most like your child to go to school.
For September 2027 entry, Warwickshire's registration opened on 7 May 2026 and closed at 4pm on 30 June 2026 (the time given in the school's policy; check the council's page for the current year). Your child doesn't have to live in Warwickshire to sit the test. The school's policy allows late registration in exceptional circumstances, including a move into Warwickshire by 31 December.
Proof of address. Warwickshire County Council asks for proof of address in early December of Year 6. The school's 2027 policy asks for it within fifteen working days of the council's letter.
Test day and results
For September 2027 entry, Warwickshire County Council held the test on 12 and 13 September 2026, and results were available on its Parent Portal from Friday 16 October 2026. You then apply for a school place to your home council by 31 October.
Open events
The school held open mornings in September 2026. It says its next Year 5 open evening will be in June 2027.
