Your data on NextJen

Last updated 17 October 2026

This is for you if your parent or carer has linked your phone, tablet or laptop to NextJen's GCSE Maths student mode. It explains what we keep about you, who can see it and what you can do about it. Your parent or carer has a longer notice at nextjentuition.co.uk/privacy.

Who we are

NextJen is run by Business name, to be added before launch. Your parent or carer set up your place and pays for it, so the account is theirs.

What we keep

  • Your first name (or the name your parent typed), your school year, and whether you're on Foundation or Higher. No surname, email address or phone number.
  • A scrambled copy of your PIN. Nobody can see your PIN: not us, and not your parent.
  • Which of your devices are linked, by the name your parent gave each one (like "Sam's phone"), and when each was linked and last used. We don't read anything else from your device, and we never know where you are.
  • The answers you type, your working notes, your marks and the topics you're working on.
  • Your practice papers: when you sat them, your answers, your marks and your estimated grade.
  • Whether extra time is turned on for your papers, and whether each paper was sat with it. We don't know why, and we never ask.

What your parent can see

Your marks, your estimated grades, the grade you're working at about, the topics that cost you most marks, how much you've practised, whether extra time is on, and which devices are linked.

They can't see your PIN, the answers you type or your working notes. They can unlink your device or end your place, because the account is theirs.

Who else sees it

No other family ever sees anything about you. At NextJen, nobody reads the answers you type, except to check a question that seems to have been marked wrongly. The companies that run our website and database store your information for us and can't use it for anything else. They're listed in the parent notice.

When you link a device, a security check from Cloudflare looks at technical details of your browser, to stop automated tools. It doesn't track you or show you adverts.

What we use it for

Only to choose your next questions, mark your answers and papers, and show you and your parent how you're doing. An estimated grade is our best guess from your marks. It isn't a prediction of your real result. We never use your information for adverts, we never sell it, and we never send you marketing.

How long we keep it

While your parent's plan is running, then for 12 months after it ends, so it's still there if you come back. Then we delete it. If a linked device isn't used for 90 days, or your parent removes it, we delete the link 90 days later.

Your rights

It's your information. You can:

  • download a copy yourself: Download my data in student mode
  • ask us to correct it, stop using it or delete it
  • complain to us, or to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint

To ask us anything, email hello@nextjentuition.co.uk. Include the code shown under My data in student mode, so we know it's you. You don't need your parent's permission to ask. If you and your parent ask us for different things, we'll think about both, with what's best for you first.

Keep your PIN to yourself

Don't share it, even with friends. If you think someone knows it, ask your parent to remove the device and link it again, then choose a new PIN.

Feeling the pressure? Exams are stressful. If you want to talk to someone outside your family, Childline is free and confidential: 0800 1111 or childline.org.uk.
